Public sculptures by David Shrigley to be unveiled in London and NYC this autumn
In London the office of newly elected Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced David Shrigley’s Really Good (shown above, right, courtesy of the artist) will be unveiled on Thursday 29 September 2016 on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square.
In New York, Public Art Fund has announced that a new public artwork, a seventeen-foot-tall granite sculpture with a shopping list engraved on its surface, titled Memorial, also by David Shrigley (an artist sketch of which is shown above, left, courtesy of the artist and Anton Kern Gallery) will be on view from September 8, 2016.
Humour is also a protagonist in Shrigley’s edition with The Multiple Store, ‘Brass Tooth’ where he plays on our fear of the dentist’s chair by hugely exaggerating the size of the common molar, but confounds us by making it in solid, heavy brass.
