AR Hopwood False Memory Archive (thumbnail)

A.R. Hopwood has just produced a limited edition print, False Memory Archive: Damage caused to the walls of The Freud Museum London by previous art exhibitions (Emin Neon). This work is taken from a series of site-specific images made at The Freud Museum London for the artist’s recent national touring exhibition the False Memory Archive. The work is a photograph of damage caused to the walls of the Freud Museum by the hanging of a neon text work made by Tracey Emin for a previous exhibition at the museum.

Based upon scientific research that demonstrates how susceptible we are to false memories, The False Memory Archive evocatively reflected on the way we creatively reconstruct our sense of the past, while providing insight into the often humorous, obscure and uncomfortable things people have misremembered.

Eric Great-RexIslands, a series of ceramic tiles, play with the idea of metaphorical islands and the enigmatic territory of emotions and feelings. The islands of Anger and Regret are the possible unspoken or unrecognised areas within masculinity that we might find difficult to visit. The islands of Luck and Desire are the islands we all might want to land and spend time on.
