Yinka Shonibare MBE, who was chosen recently by Artspace as one of the artists to watch, is the subject of three major solo exhibits in North America this spring.
PIECES DE RESISTANCE is Shonibare’s first major exhibition in Canada and it will be on show at Montreal’s DHC/ART Foundation for Contemporary Art from April 28th until 20th September. The DHC/ART Foundation is at 451 St Jean St, Montreal, Quebec H2Y 2R5
COLONIAL ARRANGEMENTS will be presented from 1st May to 31st August 2015, at the Morris-Jumel Mansion, at 65 Jumel Terrace, Washington Heights, NY 10032, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of this National Historic Landmark.
Yinka Shonibare MBE, a Turner Prize nominee, recently created an edition for The Multiple Store, Kaleidoscope in which the artist playfully explores gender stereotypes and power relations. A kaleidoscope in the shape of a phallus, with the body beautifully decorated in the Dutch wax batik patterns the artist is known for, and the head made of highly polished brass. Click here to watch the artist discuss how this edition came about with Iwona Blazwick, Director, Whitechapel Gallery.
